Tonia was born in Famagusta, Cyprus. Her love for the moving image from an early age led her to pursue her dream and become a filmmaker. In 1997, after studying in the UK, she moved to Cyprus to start working as a director/producer "experimenting" in film, theatre, video and television. Her short film Dead End (2013) was officially selected to make its World Premiere in Locarno Film Festival thus achieving a nomination for the "Golden Pardino - Leopards of tomorrow". The same film was officially selected to compete in more than 30 International Film Festivals around the world, also winning 5 awards (including 2 for "Best Director"). Her third short film Lullaby of the butterfly (2014) was officially selected to make its World Premiere at Sarajevo Film Festival. She is now researching her debut feature film. She holds the position of Film Representative in the Board of Directors of the Directors Guild of Cyprus since January 2014.
