Biography

Taner Barlas was born in Burdur in 1947. Between 1965 and 1966, he studied at the LCC Theater School, which was directed by Muhsin Ertuğrul. In 1971, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University. Barlas then pursued his studies in theater in England and Poland. He also studied pantomime and founded Taner Barlas Pantomime Theatre in 1973. In the next year, Barlas joined the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre, which was directed by Muhsin Ertuğrul. Barlas also became a director in the Gültepe Theatre. In 1980, he became an art director in the Fatih City Theatre. In 1984, Barlas founded the Taner Barlas Mim Theatre and served as a director for five years. He was one of the founders of the Bakırköy Municipality Theatre, which was founded in 1989. In the next year, Barlas returned to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre and served as a General Assistant of Art Director. He has participated in many national and international theaters and pantomime festivals and performed in many plays such as “Tırpan,” “Ali’nin Öyküsü,” “Sırtımızdakiler” and “Bir Martı.” He has written and directed many types of plays and pantomime works. Barlas currently works as director and actor in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre and other several theatres. He has received four awards in the theater category and three awards in the pantomime category.
