Reis Çelik was born in Ardahan in in Ardahan, Turkey in 1961. He studied music at the State Conservatory in Istanbul and began his career in 1982, working as a political and economic journalist. In the mid-eighties he began making his first documentaries and commercials and was involved in setting up private television in Turkey. He has shot more than 600 advertising films and political campaign films. In 1992, he shot Nazım Hikmet’s documentary film “Nazım Hikmet Ziyaretçin Var”. He received three awards for his first long film “Işıklar Sönmesin”. Currently, Çelik lives and works in Istanbul.
