Blaz was born in 1977 in Postojna. In middle school he shot several short movies and at age 18 entered the Film Academy (AGRFT) in Ljubljana. In 1997 he made short movie Vbod (The Prick), which was shown at several festivals around the world. His student short movie Noc v Hotelu (Night in a Hotel) was the finalist at 2000 Hollywood Film Festival and awarded best movie at Beograd 2001 festival. He directed video clips for several theatre performances directed by Matjaž Pograjc. He was also assistant director in Kruh in Mleko (Bread and Milk), which was awarded on many festivals including Golden Lion award in Venice, also asisted in short movie Atorzija, which received 2003 Golden Bear award and 2004 Oscar nomination. He shot and edited a movie Tigra, which received 2002 Vesna Award. He has directed more than 200 commercials including P&G, Kraft (Milka), Toyota, VIP – Mobilkom Austria/Vodafone, T-home, Bank Austria Creditanstalt, Unicef, Volksbank, Krka, Podravka, Pliva, TDR, Franck, Kolinska, Mercator, Mobitel… His work is characterized by a great feeling for atmosphere and visual aesthetic.
