Biography

Atanas Kiryakov was born on March 22, 1939 in Varna, Bulgaria. He graduated in filmmaking in Paris, and is the creator of 2 feature films and over 100 documentaries. He was the screenwriter for most of his documentaries. Winner of a number of awards, including: Grand Prix at the Festival of the Bulgarian Non - Feature Films Golden Rhyton in Plovdiv, for the films For Official Use and Let's Save the Air and The Best Directing Award for the film Hell in Paradise; Grand Prix " The Golden Ship " at the international Festival of Red Cross, for the film Equal to All; the Annual prize of Sofia for films treating the issues of Sofia, etc. The main themes the writer examines in his films are the treatment of the disadvantaged; the unjustly charged and punished; people bullied and humillated by the system; bureaucracy and human vileness.
