The Theatre From A Shoe Box

Synopsis:

What is the work of a theater like when it is expatriated from one part of the town to the other part, which is being divided by barricades? What is the role of the artistic act in an ethnically divided society? What is the professional fate of the artists like during the conflict of the people, politics and myths? What amount of culture do the isolated people need if they are deprived of basic rights? A visual answer has been given to these questions in the documentary "The theater from a shoe box" and they have been left open to interpretations. The author of the film, Predrag Radonjic, while having the conversation with the main protagonist, the manager and the director of the Serbian drama, Nenad Todorovic, and by using a series of associative pictures from the Kosovo reality, ever since the NATO bombing in 1999 till the present days, and by combining them with those from the theater plays, gives us the image of a strange world where the theater fiction appears as less surreal and absurd than the environment itself, which it is created in. In this world of beauty, pain and nonsense, isolation, loneliness and vulnerability, the audience lives and the actors of this unusual theater work.
