Night Exit

Synopsis:

For his second feature Menios Ditsas wrote a script based on Joanna Karatzaferi's novel "The Lost Button". Thirty-year old Nikos meets Maria, a young country girl in a subway station during rush hour. She has just missed her train. Nikos approaches her and whispers confidentially: "If you want to get on, you've got to push your way in." At the exit he asks her to the movies and at her front door he tries to persuade her to go out with him again. One morning a week later they get married alone in City Hall and at noon, after a bridal lunch at an ouzo place, Nikos leaves on a two day job assignment. No sooner is he back than he leaves her again without a proper explanation. Maria, who knows nothing about his past, or where he used to live, manages to track him down. But from that moment on their life together is full of surprises and mystery... The story focuses on the couple's successive meetings and partings. A trip to the seaside, tailing each other, night episodes, sudden lovemaking and fights, all stumble on the hidden secret that has been chasing Nikos all his life and mars their relationship with a cloud of suspicion. With no common past experiences their life together is doomed to a very brief future. Their relationship deteriorates as a result of their loneliness, their insurmountable differences and the almost hostile everyday environment. A realistic journey into life in today's megacities, the film quickly gets around the pretext of the "secret" and turns into a thriller.
