The Match Factory strikes deal on Srdan Golubović’s Father

German sales firm The Match Factory has racked up sales on Srdan Golubovic’s Father. The sales deal comes after the film`s Panorama premiere. The film won the ecumenical jury prize and audience award and has been picked up for the UK by New Wave Films.

The film is a Serbian/French/German/Croatian/Slovenian/Bosnian coproduction. Soon after the Berlinale, Father will open the 48th edition of FEST, which will be held in Belgrade from 28 February to 8 March 2020. View the trailer here

Father is the story of an impoverished day laborer whose children are taken by social services after the family’s difficult circumstances drive his wife to commit a desperate act. Unable to get a fair hearing from the corrupt administrator in his provincial town, he decides to travel across Serbia on foot to take his case directly to the ministry in Belgrade.

The film was written by Golubović and Ognjen Svilicic, and lensed by Golubović’s long-time cinematographer Aleksandar Ilic. It stars the veteran Bosnian actor Goran Bogdan. 

Golubović’s films include The Trap, which premiered in Berlin and was shortlisted for the foreign-language Academy Award in 2008, and the 2013 Sundance prize-winner Circles.

Father is produced by Film House Bas Celik, A.S.A.P. Films, Neue Mediopolis Filmproduktion, Vertigo, Propeler Film, and SCCA/Pro.BA, and co-produced by ZDF Arte and Arte France.

The German sales outfit also said that deals were pending on Panorama titles Digger, from Greece’s Georgis Grigorakis.
